This is a great item for training that dog who wants to bite the side of the dumbbell. This will encourage him to bite in the middle of the dumbbell as there are dowel rods poking out of the large part of the dumbbell. The dowel rods are drilled into the ends to safely keep dogs from grabbing the ends of the dumbbell. The thorns will discourage the dog from carrying the dumbbell on the bell part of the dumbbell.
